Stallion Express is a Canadian shipping service, widely used for cross-border shipping into the US. The integration supports package types, signature, and insurance options.

Setting up the rate

Add a rate to your zone

In your rule, click Add rate on the zone you want.

Set the calculation parameter to Stallion Express

Choose it under the live carrier options.

Enter your API Key

Paste the key from your Stallion dashboard.

Choose a Package type

Select the packaging format — including Pallet for freight-scale consignments.

Set parcel distribution

Configure how cart items are distributed into parcels. See the packing algorithm.

Choose signature and insurance

Tick Signature required and Insured as needed. Both affect the quoted price.

Set a discount and default rate

Discount (Optional) reduces every returned rate by a percentage. Default rate (Optional) is used if Stallion doesn’t respond.

Signature and insurance

These two options change the price Stallion quotes, so set them to match how you actually ship.
  • Signature required — proof of delivery. Adds cost, reduces disputes.
  • Insured — declared-value coverage. Adds cost, protects high-value goods.
If only some of your catalogue warrants signature or insurance, don’t enable them globally. Create a second rule with a product condition — for example on price or a high-value tag — and enable the options only on that rule’s rate.
Enabling these on every rate means every customer pays for coverage most orders don’t need, which shows up as an uncompetitive shipping price at checkout.

Cross-border shipping

Stallion is commonly used to ship from Canada into the United States. Which services return depends on the destination and your account configuration. If you ship both domestically within Canada and across the border, consider separate rules with country conditions so each is configured appropriately.

Always set a Default rate

If Stallion is unavailable and no default rate is set, the customer sees no shipping option and cannot complete checkout.

Testing

  1. Add products with accurate weights and dimensions
  2. Check out to a real address, using a fresh address each time
  3. Test both a Canadian and a US destination if you ship to both
  4. Confirm the price reflects your signature and insurance settings
