Product dimensions drive volume-based packing and any condition using Product Length, Width, Height, or Volume. Shopify has no native dimension field, so ShipMagic stores them for you.
All dimensions are in millimetres.

Where to enter them

Open the Products page in the app. Every product is listed with editable Length, Breadth, and Height fields. Enter values and save. For a handful of products this is the fastest route. For a full catalogue, use the CSV flow below.

Bulk upload by CSV

1

Download the template

On the Products page, choose Bulk upload dimensions, then Download CSV format. This gives you a file with your products already listed.
The export is emailed to you rather than downloaded directly. It goes to the Contact Email set on the app’s Settings page — change it there if the mail should go elsewhere.
2

Fill in the dimensions

Add length, breadth, and height in millimetres for each row. Leave rows blank if you don’t have data for them yet.
3

Upload the file

Back on the Products page, open Bulk upload dimensions and drop the completed .csv into the upload area.
Export first, fill in the file you get back, and upload that. Building a CSV from scratch means matching product identifiers by hand, which is where mistakes creep in.

What dimensions are used for

Volume-based packing. The By items volume distribution in the packing algorithm cannot work without them. Carrier rate accuracy. Carriers price on dimensional weight as well as actual weight. Wrong dimensions mean quotes that don’t match your invoice. Rate conditions. Product Length / Width / Height / Volume conditions let you route oversized items to a freight rate.

Measure the shipped size

Enter the dimensions of the product as it ships, including its own packaging — not the bare item.
Dimensional weight is where carriers make their margin. A product measured without its retail box can be significantly under-quoted, and the difference lands on your invoice rather than the customer’s.

Products with no dimensions

A product with no dimensions contributes nothing to a volume calculation. On a By items volume rate this quietly understates parcel size, producing a rate that’s too low rather than an error you’d notice.
If your catalogue is only partly measured, use By items count or By weight packing until the data is complete. They degrade more gracefully than volume packing does.
New products start with no dimensions, so make measuring part of adding a product.
