Shipping Customizations change what customers see. To calculate a price Shopify can’t work out natively, use Shipping Rates instead. Not sure which you need? See Rates vs Customizations.
Before you start
Customizations act on rates that already exist, so set those up first in Shopify Admin → Settings → Shipping and Delivery. They can be manual Shopify rates, ShipMagic rates, or both.Create the customization
1
Open Shipping Customizations and click Create Customization
From the left navigation panel in the app, open Shipping Customizations.
2
Choose a Type
The type decides what the rule does when it matches:
See Actions (Hide / Rename / Sort) for the details of each.
3
Name the rule
For example
Hide free shipping for heavy items. This name is internal and is never shown to customers.4
Add your conditions
Choose whether the rule must match All conditions or Any condition, then add conditions. Customizations can match on cart, product, customer, address, and shipping-method attributes — including some that aren’t available to shipping rates, such as Product Collection, Shopify Market, Customer Company, Is subscription product, and Address is a PO Box.See Cart Conditions, Product Attributes, Customer Attributes, and Customer Location and Address.
5
List the shipping methods to act on
Under Action, enter the name of each method the rule should affect. Click Add another method for more than one.For Rename, you also give the new name. For Reorder, you also give the new position.
6
Set Apply rule to
- All shipments (default) — the rule applies to every shipment in the order.
- Only the first shipment — for subscription sellers who want the rule to affect only the first shipment’s shipping method.
7
Set status and save
Leave Status as Active, then Save.
A worked example
Show a “Free Prime Shipping” method only to customers taggedprime. This takes two customizations — one to show it to members, one to hide it from everyone else.
1
Create the rate in Shopify
In Settings → Shipping and Delivery, add a rate named
Free Prime Shipping to your zone.2
Customization 1 — show it to prime customers
3
Customization 2 — hide it from everyone else
Test your customization
- Open your storefront and log in as a customer who matches your conditions
- Add matching products to the cart and proceed to checkout
- Enter a complete address
- In test mode, enter
shipmagicas the first name
