Too many shipping options is a conversion problem, not just an aesthetic one. Here’s where the extras usually come from.

1. Old Shopify rates alongside ShipMagic rates

The most common cause. Your manual Shopify rates don’t disappear when ShipMagic starts returning its own — both are offered. Check: Shopify Admin → Settings → Shipping and Delivery, and look at the manual rates in your profile. Fix: delete the manual rates you no longer want. See Going Live.

2. Several rules matching the same cart

Every matching rule contributes its rates. Three rules matching one cart produce three sets. Fix, depending on what you want:
  • They should combine into one price — give the rates the same name and set basic blending to Add rates. See Rate Blending.
  • Only one should apply — mark the winning rule Exclusive so lower-priority rules are skipped.
  • They’re genuinely alternatives — set blending to lowest or highest so only one shows.

3. Ranged rate bands overlapping

If two ranged rates cover the same value, a cart in the overlap matches both. Check: your band boundaries. Bands 0–100 and 100–200 overlap at exactly 100. Fix: start each band just above the previous one — 0–100, then 100.01–200.

4. A carrier returning many services

Live carrier rates can return a long list — Shiprocket in particular queries many courier partners, and ShipStation exposes every carrier in your account. Fix:
  • Use Lowest rate only or Highest rate only on the carrier rate.
  • Select fewer services in the carrier’s configuration.
  • Hide the extras with a customization.

5. A multi-location order charging twice

An order fulfilled from two locations can produce shipping for each. Fix: see Prevent double shipping charges.

Reducing the list deliberately

Once the duplicates are gone, decide how many options you actually want to offer.
Two or three is the practical sweet spot — typically a standard option, a faster one, and free shipping if you offer it. Beyond that, extra choices tend to cause hesitation rather than satisfaction.
To trim without changing your rate logic, use Only show specified shipping rates and hide rest in a customization. It settles the outcome in one rule and keeps working as new methods appear.
