Work down this list in order — the causes are roughly ordered by how often they turn out to be the problem.

1. Is CCS enabled?

Carrier Calculated Shipping is mandatory for any third-party app to return rates. Without it, ShipMagic is never even asked. Check: open the Shipping Rates page in the app. If CCS is not enabled you’ll see an error message there. No error means CCS is active. Fix: contact Shopify support to have CCS enabled. See the Installation Guide.

2. Are you in test mode without the test name?

If the app is in test mode, it only returns rates for checkouts where the first name is shipmagic. Everyone else sees your normal Shopify rates. Check: Settings → App Modes. If the Shipping Rates toggle is off, you’re in test mode. Fix: either enter shipmagic as the first name when testing, or go live. See Test mode vs live mode.

3. Is ShipMagic a rate provider on that profile?

ShipMagic is added to the General profile automatically. Custom shipping profiles need it added manually. Check: Shopify Admin → Settings → Shipping and Delivery. Open the profile covering the products in your test cart and confirm ShipMagic appears as a rate provider in the relevant zone. Fix: follow adding ShipMagic to custom profiles.

4. Have zones been synced, and does the zone have rates?

Check: open your rule. If you see a warning instead of your zones, they haven’t been synced. If a zone shows “No rates. Customers in this zone won’t see shipping rates from ShipMagic app”, that zone has nothing to return. Fix: sync from Settings → Shipping Zones, then attach a rate to the zone. See Adding / Modifying Shipping Zones.

5. Do the conditions actually match your test cart?

A rule that doesn’t match produces nothing. Check each condition against your cart:
  • Is the rule Active?
  • For Product Tag, Type, Title, Barcode, or Compare-at Price conditions — have you synced products since last editing them?
  • For customer conditions — are you logged in? Guests have no tags and zero spend.
  • Is All conditions set where you meant Any condition?
  • For ranged rates, does your cart fall inside a band? A cart above your largest band with no open-ended final band gets nothing.
Isolate the problem by temporarily creating a rule with a single always-true-ish condition and a fixed rate. If that appears, the issue is your conditions. If it doesn’t, the issue is higher up this list.

6. Are you seeing a cached rate?

Shopify caches shipping rates per address. Re-testing with the same address shows the old result no matter what you changed. Fix: use a fresh, random address for every test. See Made changes but still seeing old rates.

7. Did a live carrier fail to respond?

If a rate uses a live carrier and the carrier doesn’t respond, that rate produces nothing unless a Default rate is set. Check: credentials are current, and a default rate is set on the carrier rate. Fix: set a Default rate on every live carrier rate. See the carrier’s page — USPS, FedEx, Australia Post, ShipStation, Shiprocket, Stallion Express, Direct Freight Express.

8. Is an exclusive rule suppressing everything?

An exclusive rule that matches skips all lower-priority rules. An exclusive rule with broad conditions at a low priority number can silence your whole rule set. Check: look for exclusive rules with a low priority number and permissive conditions.

9. Is a customization hiding the rate?

A shipping rate can be generated correctly and then hidden by a customization. Check: review your customizations for a Hide or Only show rule matching your test conditions. See Shipping Customizations Not Working.
