Shipping Customizations Not Working

Customizations don’t need CCS and don’t need product syncing, which rules out two common classes of problem. What’s left is usually conditions, method names, or mode.

1. Is the customization active?

Check: open the customization and confirm Status is Active.

2. Are you in test mode without the test name?

In test mode, customizations only apply when the checkout’s first name is shipmagic. Check: Settings → App Modes — the Shipping Customizations toggle. Fix: use shipmagic as the first name when testing, or go live. Note the toggles are independent — rates can be live while customizations are still in test mode.

3. Does the method name match?

This is the most common cause of a rule that looks right but does nothing. Method names match partially, but they must match something. Epxress matches nothing; Express matches “Express Shipping”. Check: compare the name in your rule against the name shown at checkout, character for character. Fix: copy the name from checkout rather than typing it from memory.

4. Do the conditions match?

Check each one:

• Is All conditions set where you meant Any condition?
• For customer conditions — is the customer logged in? A guest has no tags, zero spend, and zero orders.
• For Product Collection — did you enter the collection ID rather than its name?
• For product conditions — is the cart-evaluation mode right? All products meet the condition and At least one product meets the condition behave very differently.

5. Are two customizations fighting?

All customization rules apply together. One rule hiding a method and another showing it can produce results that look random until you trace the order. Check: list every customization that could match your test cart and reason through them together.

6. Is the method there to act on?

A hide rule can only hide something that exists. If the underlying rate isn’t being generated in the first place, the customization has nothing to do. Check: temporarily deactivate the customization and confirm the method appears at all. If it doesn’t, the problem is on the rates side — see Shipping Rates Not Showing.
