# Shipping Discount Not Applying

> Work through the causes of a shipping discount not showing at checkout

Shipping discounts don't need CCS or product syncing, which rules out two common classes of problem. What's left is usually status, mode, conditions, or rate names.

## 1. Is the discount active?

**Check:** the status badge on the **Shipping Discounts** page.

| Status | Fix |
| - | - |
| *Disabled* | Open the discount, set **Status** to *Enabled*, and save. |
| *Scheduled* | The start date is in the future. Check **Active dates** — they're in your store's timezone. |
| *Expired* | The end date has passed. Move it, or untick **Set end date**. |
| *Missing in Shopify* | Open the discount and click **Save** to create it again. |
| *Unknown* | Click **Grant access** on the banner to give ShipMagic the **Manage discounts** permission. |

## 2. Are you in test mode without the test name?

In test mode, shipping discounts only apply when the checkout's **first name is `shipmagic`**.

**Check:** **Settings → App Modes** — the Shipping Discounts toggle.

**Fix:** use `shipmagic` as the first name when testing, or [go live](/core-concepts/going-live). The toggles are independent — rates and customizations can be live while discounts are still in test mode.

## 3. Do the conditions match?

**Check each one:**

* Is **All conditions** set where you meant **Any condition**?
* For **Customer Tag** — is the customer logged in? A guest has no tags.
* For **Product Collection** — did you enter the collection **ID** rather than its name?
* For product conditions — is the cart-evaluation mode right? *All products meet the condition* and *At least one product meets the condition* behave very differently.
* For **Product Vendor** and **Product Title** — text matching is case-sensitive.
* For amounts — they're in your **store currency**, even when the customer pays in another currency.

## 4. Does the rate name match?

With **Only rates whose name contains**, the name must appear in the rate's name exactly, **including capitalization**. `express` doesn't match "Express Shipping".

**Check:** compare the name in your discount against the name shown at checkout, character for character.

**Fix:** copy the name from checkout. If a [shipping customization](/shipping-customizations/basic-shipping-customization) renames the rate, use the **new** name — discounts run after customizations.

## 5. Is the rate already free?

Rates that cost nothing, such as local pickup or an existing free shipping rate, are never discounted. With **Only the cheapest shipping rate**, the discount goes to the cheapest rate the customer would pay for.

## 6. Is another shipping discount winning?

Shopify applies **one shipping discount per order**. If several qualify, the customer gets the biggest saving, and the others don't show.

**Check:** **Shopify Admin → Discounts** for other active shipping discounts — from ShipMagic, from Shopify itself, or from other apps — that also match your test cart.

## 7. Does it combine with the other discounts on the order?

If the order also has a product or order discount, both discounts must allow combining with each other.

**Check:** the **Combinations** card on your shipping discount, and the combination settings of the other discount in Shopify.

## 8. Has the code reached its usage limit?

For discount codes, check the **Usage limits** card. A code limited to one use per customer won't apply to a customer who has already used it.
